IOPE faculty member Jeff Mattsey  has returned to the MET for the 2016/17 season, appearing as Marullo in Rigoletto and Marquis d’Obigny in La Traviata and covering Taddeo in L’Italiana in Algeri and Papageno in The Magic Flute. You can see him perform on the METs HD broadcasts of Gianni Schicchi, Fanciulla del West, Rigoletto, The Merry Widow, and Otello, plus this season’s La Traviata.

Last summer Mattsey performed with the Alpine Theatre Project in The Man of la Mancha, Rock of Ages, and The Full Monty.

In a two-day residency at Truman State University,  Oct. 20-21, Kirksville, MO, Spencer Baker presented “Transcription and Song,” a lecture and recital. The program featured works by Chopin, Liszt, Rachmaninoff, Godowsky, Thalberg and Smetana. Truman piano majors participated in the masterclass held in Ophelia Parrish.

Baker, a Las Vegas musician, conductor and teacher recently completed doctoral studies in piano performance at UNLV (University of Nevada, Las Vegas). He will be returning in summer 2017 for his fourth season with International Opera Performing Experience to teach in the collaborative pianist program and as a vocal coach.
